“Each time you say hello to a stranger, your heart acknowledges over and over again that we are all family.”
― Suzy Kassem
No matter who you are or where you are, saying hello is a part of your day. When our classes begin a digital pen pal relationship, we enjoy saying hello in person via a video chat. We use Google Meet, but other video conferencing services, such as Zoom or Skype, work just as well. There are also times due to classroom schedules or time zone differences that a video chat isn't possible. We then rely totally on Seesaw to communicate and begin our introductions with the video feature inside the Seesaw app or website.
Some video chats are short, but our students look forward to them! The class usually watches on the Smartboard as each pair introduces themselves.

This student in Virginia has a pen pal in India so she is relying on the video feature in Seesaw to connect.

After our video chat (or video message saying hello is uploaded), we create a note in the note feature in Seesaw. I encourage students to audio record their notes for a personal touch and also to help with any accents either pen pal student may have. It's a fun way to continue getting comfortable with our public speaking skills.
