I wholeheartedly believe in the power of human connection. It goes beyond the power of grades and assignments and report cards. Digital Pen Pals gives students an opportunity to connect, collaborate, create and communicate without boundaries. Student choice has become a theme in our paired classrooms and the engagement of our students is immeasurable! I can't think of anything that has energized my teaching or students more than Digital Pen Pals!

Travel Outside Your Classroom...In today's digital world, students have many options at their fingertips to explore our wild, wonderful world. As they explore, naturally students love to share their world, their ideas, their questions, their stories. Pen pals aren't new to the classroom; however, we have the capability to connect faster and share more than we did years ago when we only had a pen, paper, and the US Postal Service.
...to build meaningful relationships. |
Seesaw is a digital learning portfolio where students share their assignments and projects in a protected environment. Parents, students, and teachers can view items in a class feed or filter by a student's name in folders. Teachers can have 10 classes in the free account. There are lots of reasons why I love to use Seesaw as our pen pal platform:
It's free.
It is both web-based and an app for both Android and iOS devices.
It performs smoothly on laptops, tablets, Chromebooks, and smartphones.
After a classroom teacher sets up the classroom account and gives instruction on how to use the app or website, it's student driven.
Students log in easily with a QR code.
Two teachers share the pen pals class.
Seesaw includes a blog feature, if interested.
Teachers approve or delete student submissions.
Seesaw has a great YouTube Channel with fantastic tutorials and ideas.
